Powdered Additives and Extracts

Widely known within the bait industry and used extensively within the fish farming industry throughout the world to increase feed intake in commercial fish diets. Betaine is a natural attractor and can be found in certain plants, yeasts, and fungi, as well as various aquatic life forms such as fish, crustaceans and molluscs. We use it in many of the baits we produce, as well as blending it into one or two liquid compounds. Use at 3grms/pound in base mix recipes or one level tsp to 100ml liquid if using it to boost liquid foods and bait soaks.

GLM extract is another superb fish attractor that unbeknown to many is also naturally high in Betaine. It contains an extremely attractive amino profile and is a worthy inclusion within any HNV constructed formulation, particularly fish meal based baits. It can be used at varying levels, although we find that it very effective when used at just 2grms/pound in conjunction with Betaine at 3grms/pound. Don’t forget that Betaine is automatically included within our B5 base mix, therefore only the inclusion of GLM extract is required.

FF6 is a Thaumatin based fruit palatant that plays a number of important roles within a bait. It will significantly increase the palatability (taste profile) of a bait, and due to it being a powdered ingredient, will not disperse from the bait at the same rate as a waterborne liquid. This makes it ideal for repelling sediment or stale weed odours, and we believe that this is one of the main reasons behind its success within our Shellfish B5 boilies and pellets. It really does enhance the taste profile of any fruity type flavour, and instantly ‘kicks out’ the Plum additive found within our Shellfish Plum flavour. For best results use at 1 level tsp/pound in any base mix.

This plays exactly the same role as the Fruit Factor 6 but has been specifically developed for use in conjunction with birdfoods and/or milk protein type recipes. We use this palatant within our Cream-CSM boilies and it compliments the Caramel Cream flavour very nicely indeed. However, it works very well when used in conjunction with most sweet or creamy flavours and is highly recommended if you want to create a nice milky background. Use at a level of 1 level tsp/pound.

We are very exited about the release of this natural squid-based additive and knew it was something very special a couple of years ago when we first dropped it into the B5 with outstanding results. Unfortunately it was very difficult to source an on-going supply, but that has now changed. This product has been used in ‘hushed circles’ within the aquaculture industry to induce fish into feeding, and those fortunate enough to have used it in the past will now be extremely happy that we have secured a constant supply! This is the product we use in our new Natural Squid Pellets and is a superb addition within the B5 for anyone wishing to have their baits custom rolled with a different attractor profile.

I consider powdered additives and extracts to be an important inclusion within the construction of a successful carp bait recipe. They tie everything up nicely together and whilst the palatants will improve palatability and help to repel sediment odours, the natural extracts will help to trigger a prolonged feeding response.

Although not a necessity within a bait, I do believe these ingredients will improve the effectiveness of a bait both short term and long term, and personally, I wouldn’t use a bait without the inclusion of a palatant and at least one of the above natural extracts.
